Day-trippers from Athens arrive at Meteora around 12:30 PM. We arrive at 11 AM and stay for sunset and sunrise. That's the difference.
Pickup at 8:00 AM. Drive 4.5 hours north with stops at Thermopylae (Leonidas monument) and a roadside taverna for lunch. Arrive Kalambaka 1:30 PM. Afternoon visit to two of the six active monasteries — typically Great Meteoron and Varlaam. Sunset photo stop at the cliff edge. Dinner at hotel.
Breakfast 8 AM. Visit one or two more monasteries (often Holy Trinity for Bond fans, or Roussanou nuns' monastery). Time for photos in morning light before the buses arrive. Lunch in Kalambaka (own expense). Drive back to Athens via the same route. Drop-off at your hotel by 7:30 PM.

The 2-day version arrives by 1:30 PM, sees 2 monasteries before the day buses leave, sleeps in town at sunset, and visits 1-2 more in the calm morning. You actually experience Meteora.
A-Class uses Divani Meteora or Hotel Doupiani House (4★ with rock views). Tourist Class uses Famissi Eden or similar 3★ central hotels. All are within walking distance of Kalambaka center and have rock-view rooms when available.
Yes — six are still active. Great Meteoron (largest), Varlaam (second largest), Roussanou (nuns'), St. Stephen (nuns'), Holy Trinity (the For Your Eyes Only Bond film one), and St. Nicholas Anapafsas. Each is closed one day per week — your guide picks the open ones.
Each monastery has 100-200 steps to reach (built on top of cliffs in the 14th century). Wear comfortable shoes. Modest dress required — no shorts, knees and shoulders covered. Skirts/wraps provided at entrance for women if needed.
