Day cruise to neighboring islands. Quiet, dramatic cliffs, almost no other boats.
Direct boat to Ios — faster than ferry, your schedule. About 1.5 hours each way.
Full charter. Just your group, customizable route, premium catering. €2,200-3,800 for 5 hours.
Vlychada vs. Ammoudi — pick your route. Vlychada is on the south coast, ideal for sunset cruises that loop the caldera and end at Oia for golden hour. Ammoudi is at the base of Oia, ideal for shorter daytime caldera tours that don't need the long run-up.
Sunset cruise = the experience. 5 hours, catamaran, swimming stops at the volcano hot springs (sulfurous water, weird and great), Red Beach, White Beach, dinner on board, sunset over Oia. €135-185 per person on a shared catamaran. Single most-booked Santorini activity, period.
Private vs. shared — when each makes sense. Shared catamaran is great for couples and small groups (€135-185 pp). Private catamaran (€2,200-3,800 for the whole boat) is worth it if you have 8+ people, want a custom dinner, or want full control of the timing.

Yes — it's the single most-booked Santorini activity for a reason. Most travelers say it's the best memory of their trip. The combination of volcanic landscape, hot springs swim, and golden-hour caldera light is genuinely unique. Even people who normally hate group tours rate it highly.
Vlychada (south) for sunset catamaran cruises — they need the long run-up around the caldera. Ammoudi (Oia side) for shorter daytime tours that focus on the volcano and hot springs only. Sunset cruises depart Vlychada around 3pm and return ~9pm.
Hot springs swim stop (volcanic sulfur water), Red Beach + White Beach swim stops, dinner on board (usually Greek BBQ), unlimited drinks (wine, beer, soft drinks), pickup/dropoff at most Santorini hotels. About 5 hours total.
In peak season (July-August), there can be 20-30 catamarans on the water at sunset. They all anchor in similar spots. The view is still amazing, but if you want privacy, book a private catamaran or go in shoulder season.
Yes. The boat anchors offshore at Palia Kameni; you swim 50-100 meters to the warm sulfurous spring water. Bring an old swimsuit — the sulfur stains light fabrics. The water is murky brown-yellow but warm and weirdly soothing.
Santorini is windy. The meltemi can affect July-August trips. Sunset cruises sometimes get rerouted or shortened on very windy days. If a port authority cancels departures, you get a full refund. Spring and autumn are calmer.
Yes — these are the two best 'escape Santorini' options. Anafi is dramatic and almost empty. Folegandros is small, beautiful, and harder to reach by regular ferry. Both are €1,500-2,800 round-trip for a private boat charter.
If you're 6+ people, often yes — the per-person cost evens out (€275-475 pp on a private vs €135-185 pp on shared). You also get custom timing, no random other passengers, and customizable food/drinks. For 1-4 people, shared is the better deal.
Cruise passengers often have 6-8 hours on the island and want to do something memorable. The 3-hour volcano+hot springs trip (€45-75 pp) is the realistic option for cruise days. The 5-hour sunset cruise needs you to overnight on the island.
