Luxury Greece 2026: Five-Star Hotels, Private Yachts & Concierge Service

Luxury Greek travel has changed in the last decade. Santorini and Mykonos went from premium-priced to oligarch-priced. New ultra-luxury properties opened across the islands. Yacht charters became the preferred way to combine multiple islands. Here's what genuinely-luxurious Greece looks like in 2026, and where it's worth the spend.

Where luxury actually means luxury

Not every "5-star Greek hotel" is luxury. Many properties at €450-650/night offer extremely-good 4-star quality, not actual luxury. Real luxury in Greece is found at specific properties:

Santorini

Canaves Oia Suites (Oia, €900-2,500/night), Mystique (Oia, €1,200-3,500), Grace Hotel (Imerovigli, €700-2,000), Andronis Concept (Imerovigli, €1,000-2,800). All have caldera-edge cave suites, private plunge pools, butler service. Book 4-6 months ahead for peak summer.

Mykonos

Belvedere Mykonos (€800-2,200), Bill & Coo (€1,000-3,000), Kenshō Psarou (€1,200-3,500), Calilo (€2,500-6,000+, the new pinnacle). Mykonos luxury is experience-driven — private beach access, Scorpios reservations included, helicopter transfers.

Crete

Domes of Elounda (€1,000-3,000), Daios Cove (€800-2,500), Blue Palace Elounda (€700-2,000). Crete has the largest concentration of properly luxurious resorts in Greece — they have space (Cycladic islands don't), so the resorts are genuinely full-service.

Athens

Hotel Grande Bretagne (€500-1,500), Four Seasons Astir Palace (€600-1,800), King George (€450-1,200). Athens luxury is concentrated at Syntagma Square and along the Athens Riviera. The Grande Bretagne rooftop with Acropolis view is one of the great hotel bars in the world.

Yacht charters — the new luxury

For multi-island luxury trips, a private yacht has replaced the hotel-hopping model. You stay in one place (the yacht), wake up in a different bay every morning, swim in coves no hotel can access, eat dinner on deck.

Charter pricing in 2026: Catamaran (40-50ft, sleeps 6-8): €8,000-15,000/week including crew. Motor yacht (60-80ft, sleeps 6-10): €25,000-60,000/week. Superyacht (100ft+): €70,000-300,000+/week. All before fuel, food, and tips. Tips alone run 10-15% of charter cost.

Best routes from Athens marina: Saronic Gulf (Hydra, Spetses) for short charters; Cyclades (Mykonos-Paros-Naxos-Santorini) for week+; Sporades (Skiathos-Skopelos) for protected waters and forested islands.

The honest 5-star itinerary

A typical luxury 10-day Greek itinerary we book for high-end clients:

Total cost (mid-luxury, 2 people, 10 days, all-in): €18,000-32,000. Top-tier luxury (private transfers throughout, Calilo, Mystique, Spondi tasting menus): €35,000-60,000.

Frequently asked.

What's the difference between a 5-star and an actual luxury hotel in Greece?+

5-star is a categorization standard met by many hotels. Actual luxury — what international travelers expect at this price point — is a smaller subset. Real luxury means properly trained staff (some Greek 5-stars are family-owned with a different service philosophy), genuinely thoughtful design, and infrastructure (concierge, transfers, restaurant reservations). The properties listed above are the proper luxury subset.

Should I rent a yacht or stay in luxury hotels?+

Yacht for 2 islands+ trips. Hotels for single-island stays. Yacht advantages: no luggage moves, private experience, access to remote bays, all meals/transport in one cost. Hotel advantages: more space, on-island dining variety, fewer logistical considerations. We often combine — hotel base + day yacht charter.

How far ahead should I book luxury Greece?+

4-6 months for peak summer (June-August), the top properties. Yacht availability is similar. Last-minute options exist but limit you to whatever didn't sell. For September shoulder season — 8-12 weeks. For honeymoon-quality experiences, never book within 8 weeks of travel.

Are private islands available to charter in Greece?+

A few. Spinalonga (Crete), small uninhabited islands in the Saronic Gulf, and various small Cycladic islands can be 'taken over' for events and weddings. Pricing starts at €15,000-30,000/day depending on the island and infrastructure required. We can arrange these — message with your specific requirements.

What's the most over-rated luxury experience in Greece?+

Helicopter transfers Athens-to-island. They're loud, weather-dependent, and add €1,500-3,500 each way to your trip. Unless you have specific time constraints, fast ferries (with private chauffeur transfers on each end) deliver you to your island in similar effective time at a fraction of the cost. Real luxury is what's been thoughtfully arranged on the ground.
