Greek electrical outlets: Type C/F, 230V, the basics.

Greece uses standard European Type C (two round pins) and Type F (two round pins + grounding clips) plugs. Voltage is 230V at 50Hz. Here's exactly what you need to bring depending on where you're coming from.

What plugs Greece uses

Greek outlets accept both Type C and Type F (often called Schuko or "Europlug"). All EU plugs work in Greece without adaptation. Most newer Greek hotels also have USB-A and USB-C ports built into outlets — increasingly the norm in 4-star+ hotels.

What to bring by country

What to leave at home

Don't bring: US hair dryers, curling irons, electric razors that aren't dual-voltage. They will burn out instantly on Greek 230V even with a plug adapter. Buy a cheap European hair dryer at a Greek pharmacy for €20-30 if needed.

Do bring: A compact Type C/F adapter with multiple USB ports. The Anker 5-port travel cube is ideal — works in any EU country, plus your iPhone/Android cable plugs into the USB ports.

Frequently asked.

Do American devices work in Greece?+

Phones, laptops, tablets, cameras: yes (they're dual-voltage). Just use a plug adapter. Hair dryers, curling irons, electric razors: usually NO without a voltage converter. Check the device label — if it says '100-240V', you're fine with just an adapter.

Where can I buy adapters in Athens?+

Any pharmacy (€8-15), any electronics shop (Public, Plaisio — €5-12), or the airport (€10-20). Adapters are widely available; don't stress if you forget.

Do Greek hotels have USB charging built-in?+

Newer hotels (built or renovated post-2018) yes, increasingly. Older hotels and traditional accommodations: usually no. Bring USB charging adapters as backup.

What about charging multiple devices?+

Bring a small EU power strip with multiple USB ports. Greek outlets are usually limited to 1-2 per room. A 4-port USB charger plus 2-3 outlet European power strip handles a couple.

Are hair dryers in Greek hotels?+

4-star+ hotels: always. 3-star: usually but not always. Below 3-star: bring your own (purchased in Greece if needed) or borrow from reception.
